BEGINNERS TIP: RESOLUTION AND DIGITAL CAMERAS
Resolution is one of the biggest factors in enabling you to output nice, sharp images. The most obvious resolution consideration is that the more pixels in the image, the larger you can print the final image. If the resolution is insufficient, the print will suffer from pixelization. In extreme cases, pixelization looks like LEGO® structures. Photoshop does, however, have some very impressive interpolation technology that enables you to enlarge your images substantially and still have an acceptable quality print. Still, printing a sharp, clean 8 x 10 image from a 2-megapixel capture is a little ambitious.
Another resolution consideration is cropping. If an image is taken with a higher resolution than is needed, there is plenty of overhead, or reserve pixels to work with. This overhead is very useful while cropping away precious pixels.
The bottom line is this: If you want flexibility with your images, always shoot with the maximum resolution available on your camera. You can decrease the image resolution, but once it is shot, you can’t increase it. After all, why buy a 5-megapixel camera capable of shooting 2560 x 1920 pixels and shoot only at 640 x 480 pixels? Of course, there are always exceptions, such as limited storage space and instances in which images are not needed in a high resolution (when e-mailing a snapshot, for instance).
How to Wow with Flash
Yippie! My new book is finally out. It was unveiled at Photoshop World and Flash Forward. I’m glad to say that people really like the book and have said this is the book a lot of people have been waiting for. This is for beginners and intermediate Flash users. I follow the same approach that I have with Photoshop training. You will learn how to create all the cool things you have seen with Flash without all the confusing jargon. Make all kinds of animation and transitions, things will sparkle, metal will shimmer and you will even make realistic moving smoke. Learn how to build entire sites in Flash… 2ways! Easily add video, green screen effects and all kinds of video effects to web pages. Want to create an old-time looking video in Flash? No problem. Add sound, music, dynamic scrolling text, email forms, galleries etc. In total there are over 70 fast paced, recipe-style projects. All source files are included on the CD. If you have always wanted to learn Flash or know the basics but looking for some really awesome techniques to make your work look like the pros.. this is the book for you
